Brother Matthews was born Darnell S. Reddix to Gary Matthews and Brenda Reddix in Takoma Park Maryland. As a result of the marriage of Gary and Brenda, Brother Darnell Reddix’s name was changed to Darnell Matthews. Growing up in the DC Metropolitan area, Brother Matthews accepted Christ at the age of 14 and began trying to satisfy a hunger and thirst for studying the word of God. Brother Matthews would teach Sunday School to the youth and also teach during Vacation Bible School at Parker Memorial Baptist church in Takoma Park Maryland. Upon graduation from High School, Brother Matthews would enter the US Marine Corps at the age of 17. Brother Matthews has served during Desert Shield and Desert Storm with the 25th Marine Regiment as a Platoon Sargent. Brother Matthews has served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and even taught Bible Study during his 10-year tenure at Called to Conquer Church Ministries in Kinston North Carolina. While at Called to Conquer, Brother Matthews met the LOVE of his life sister Jackie Matthews. Together they have 5 children Darnell II (25) graduate of (NCCU 2015), Emory (24) graduate of (NC A&T ST 2016), Shanterica (23), Sharief (19) (Livingstone College) sophomore, Ebony (18) HS senior. Two grandchildren granddaughter Jordyn (3) and one grandson Legend. Brother Matthews is currently enrolled in a dual degree program at the Apex School of Theology where he has completed his Associate’s Degree in Christian Education and is finishing up his studies for a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology as an honors student at The Apex School of Theology. In 2013 Brother Matthews joined Jackson Chapel AME Zion church where he would go on to serve as Youth Class Leader, Chairman of the Trustee Board, Adult Class Leader, Leader of Leaders, and Local Preacher. At the 2016 Annual Conference Brother Matthews received the charged to pastor in La Grange NC at Lovick’s Chapel AME Zion church.
